Remake do clássico de ficção científica O Dia em que a Terra Parou (The day the Earth Stood Still), de 1951. Ele mostra a fuga do alienígena, Klaatu (Keanu Reeves) da sala de interrogatório do exército.
O filme mostra a chegada à Terra de um alienígena (Keanu Reeves), e um indestrutível robô gigante, trazendo um ultimato: se os humanos não conseguirem viver em paz, o planeta será destruído. Chamada pelo governo dos EUA a estudar o alienígena, a Dra. Helen Benson (Jennifer Connelly) tenta mostrar-lhe o que a humanidade tem de bom.
Scott Derrickson (O Exorcismo de Emily Rose) dirige o filme.
