Bogey Man

Yeah, man he’s one real bad dude; and I mean bad, real bad.

His infamy and exploits are well known in every blue-collar bar,
outlaw inn and yahoo saloon on Long Island’s South Shore
       from Queens through Nassau.

The dude led of a band of bad-ass bikers, you know, the ones who
fly outlaw rockers on worn denim vests.

I mean these guys were a platoon of goons with the disposition
rabid baboons who bust up bars like blitzkrieg storm troopers.

Armed to the teeth, they packed baseball bats, pick handles, golf clubs,
tire irons, pool cues, crowbars, hockey- sticks and an assortment of
ball-peen, sledge and claw hammers, every type of sports ware or tool
of construction that can be used as an implement of destruction.

I know, because I was there when they decimated the Ye Old Inn.
They used me for batting practice.

I’m telling you, this dude is one real scary cat.
He has nine lives and then some.

Beaten, shot, stoned and stabbed, it doesn’t matter, he keeps coming at you.

Someone once tried to off him with a shotgun, but the dude survived the blast;
the pellets only grazed his face leaving him scarred, pock-marked, missing
a piece of his ear and mad; very, very mad.

The shooter?

Gone, disappeared, never to been seen or heard from again.

No one knows for sure, but that guy is either collecting permanent disability
        or death benefits.
Another time the dude single-handedly settled a dispute with an equally evil rival
        gang of scooter tramps.
Outnumbered ten to one, the dude was able have a truce declared
        with bloodshed spared.

You see peace was achieved through the persuasion of superior firepower.

The dude came to talk, fortified with his handy-dandy chrome barreled
        sawed-off shotgun.

End of conversation.

You know I don’t take stock in any super-natural hoodoo voodoo shit,
but man some folks around here have relegated the dude to the level
of an urban legend, an incarnation of the devil, a dark lord.
Even though he is locked away, serving seven consecutive life sentences
for the attempted murder of police officers.
People don’t even say his name out loud for fear that he might just appear.

But when he does come up in conversation, it‘s in hushed tones and whispers.

Like I said,
this cat is one real bad dude.
