O macaco declamando

Um mono, vendo-se um dia
Entre brutal multidão,
Dizem lhe deu na cabeça
Fazer uma pregação.

Creio que seria o thema
Indigno de se tractar;
Mas isso pouco importava,
Porque o ponto era gritar.

Teve mil vivas, mil palmas,
Proferindo á boca cheia
Sentenças de quinze arrobas,
Palavras de legua e meia.

Isto acontece ao poeta,
Orador, e outros que taes:
Nescios o que entendem menos
E' o que celebram mais.
