Carrancudo, horrivel Fado,
Numen feroz, iracundo,
De que te serve no mundo
«A vida de um desgraçado?»
E' á morte comparado
O meu infausto viver;
Mas eis me sinto tremer,
Eis ouço voz desabrida,
Que diz: «Mentes, essa vida
«E' peor do que morrer.»
