Crossroads

Wake up America!

It’s time open your eyes.
Rise from your deep dream slumber.

Focus,
           it’s time to face reality.

American servicemen are giving up
           their lives
to protect and defend the Constitution
                           in faraway lands.

While at home
politicians and so called patriots
           preach a propaganda
to repeal the 14th Amendment
           equality for all.

And they trash the 1st Amendment
           by picking and choosing which religion
                  should exercise freedom
                          of expression

Their angst and anger is aimed
          at Mexicans and Muslims,
but we are caught in the crossfire
          and suffer from the self inflicted wounds
                        of hypocrisy.

The torch of freedom has been dropped.
Lady Liberty now stands like a crossing guard
          With her empty hand raised
                       in a gesture to stop.

Or is she giving the world the finger?
