O INCÊNDIO


 
Eu via alguns poucos eucaliptos
ressequidos, espetados lá no morro.
Vento e folhas eram humanos gritos
num lamento ofegante de socorro.

A natureza em pranto através de suas árvores
mostrava a agonia e o estertor da extinção.
Os últimos suspiros desprendiam nos clamores
de um grito lânguido implorando salvação.

Animais aflitos se perdiam da manada
e procuravam, em vão, abrigo nas restingas.
Aves fugiam piando em debandada;
desorientadas se afundavam nas caatingas.

Fora um ato impensado d’um viajante
descuidado, inconsequente que passava por ali.
Achou o ar tão puro e o campo verdejante
mas, seu cigarro aceso, ele deixou cair.
