Ó , bom Gregório, como haveis pecado
Já te taxaram de sátiro e louco:
Já t'elevaram a mestre Barroco.
Com'a adaga , tinhas os dois lados.

Mas, ó Gregório , de ti me agrado
Da coragem que tiveram uns poucos,
De desafiar aos ouvidos mocos
A satirizar aos mais abastados

Das notas soltas do teu violão
( Cordas d' arame, tu mesmo o fizeste )
Brotavam doces canções de paixão.

E, tu, à tantas mulatas tiveste,
A entregar-te corpo e coração
 por conta de teu talento incontéste
